Inis Mór

I visited Inis Mór (Inishmore), one of the Aran Islands in Ireland last summer. The Aran Islands have been called "a world of stone", and that was quite accurate. It was an arid, beautiful landscape, one of the most unique places I've ever been. Right when we were leaving I found a bunch of interesting abandoned buildings. I would have liked to take more and better pictures, but the below are what I have:

Abandoned stone house. One of the doors had an official notice posted on it, announcing that the house will be demolished.

Also, hi, [community profile] abandoned, it's been a long time! If any of you members have pictures or stories to share, I'd love for this comm to see a bit more activity.

Warehouses in rural Finland

Below are some pictures I took at Nousiainen, western Finland, in February.

A warehouse or workshop of some sort. A lot of the windows were broken, and there was an assortment of abandoned-looking cars parked in front of it.

Milazzo, Sicily

There is a tremendous amount of decay in Sicily - testiment to the decline of the region ans mass migration. Here are some buildings in the town where I live

Villas in Helsinki

My hometown, Helsinki, Finland, doesn't have many abandoned buildings. This is a growing city, and since the centre is right on the seashore, it can only grow in one direction. Land is therefore expensive and little-used buildings are quickly torn down to make room for more profitable ones. Anyhow, there is an area quite near the central parts of Helsinki, called Kruunuvuori, that has long been the subject of dispute between the city and the private owner of the area. And for decades, while the negotiations went on, the hundred-year-old villas just sat there, unmaintained, only inhabited by animals or the occasional homeless person.

Now, the disputing parties have finally come to an agreement. The city will purchase the area and develop it as a park. But this comes too late for most of the villas; possibly a few of them can be saved, but most of them definitely can't.

Last weekend, I made a trip to the Kruunuvuori area to take a look at what will soon not be there any more.

Ghost houses in Texas

Firstly, hello to all the new members here at [community profile] abandoned! It's so cool that since I advertised this comm in a few places, the amount of subscribers has more than doubled. That makes me one happy mod! Everyone, if you have pics of abandoned places stashed somewhere, please share.

I shall set an example... Below are some pics taken on an American road trip last summer. These are taken somewhere in Texas, where we went ghost town-hunting. We failed to find a whole ghost town, but we did find some abandoned houses. (And parking in front on one of them, we broke a tire on some sharp object that had fallen out of the collapsed house. Oh well.)

A house with trees growing inside it.

Abandoned shop in New Mexico

Hi all! I love the theme of this community and I'd very much like to see some more activity around here, if anyone has pictures to share. Below are mine, taken somewhere along Route 66 in New Mexico. I admit I'm not much of a photographer, but this place was absolutely spellbinding.
